1 down, some to go

I just finished Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Yesterday, I finally finished Revelation Space, a scifi novel by Alistair Reynolds.

With these two out of the way, I can finally read the new Harry Potter novel.

Well... actually I started reading Hamlet again, so I need to finish that first. But it's just a play. That shouldn't take too long.

Oh, also, I'm going to Burning Man this year. Let me know if any of you are going, or if you've gone in the past and you've got any advice.

Are you planning to go in costume?

I'm still trying to come up with a good concept, otherwise I'll just bring some weird-looking thrift store clothes.

I went last year and had a lot of fun. My experience is probably not typical of the event, but I found that I attended more events by stumbling into them than by looking at the schedule.

I kept from sunburning by getting up late, putting on sunblock in the morning and always wearing a hat.

The weather was wonderful, I spent every night on a couch we got for free off Craig's list. I was never bothered by bugs or the heat thanks to regular thirty MPH winds. The occasional duststorm does spring up, and a pair of swimming/skiing goggles can come in handy.

Arrive early if you want to reduce walking time.

If you want to build a geodesic dome to camp under, seen here, you will need to acquire a large amount of fabric (enough to cover the top and one side is good. That way you can just cover the side the sun is on and have the rest open to the air. You will lack privacy, but if you';ve been to Buurning Man before, you know that isn't a big thing up there. I found this shelter to be more than adequate and of course, I have the tubing still and am willing to give it to you. You'll also need to buy some rope and some tent stakes. But your cost should be below 60 bucks I think, and a shade structure is very important.

Thanks for the idea. I just bought a tent today, but I'm also thinking of creating my own shade structure as well. I'm going to be setting up near some friends who plan on creating a shade structure as well, but it'll be good to have a backup plan if they fall through.

How big are the poles for that structure you made? Unfortunately, my space is limited to whatever I can fit in my compact car. And the back seat does not fold down to give access to the trunk, so I can't really fit in anything that's longer than 5 or 6 feet.
